Mamnick Hibell

Thom over at Mamnick has created the most beautiful looking leather shoes inspired by the touring legend of Ian Hibell. The shoe, named after its rugged-muse, is handmade in Derbyshire in homage to its inspiration of Hibell. 100% leather the shoes are available in both a black & brown flavour. Perfect for a spot of touring of city riding, these will look dandy both in & out the saddle.
There's also a very nice little piece about Hibell over at the Mamnick journal.

Coppi Print

Check out this lovely A3 print of legend Fausto Coppi. Available as a limited run of 50, this is a hand pulled screenprint on Canaeltto paper. A perfect addition to the walls in 2013 to pay homage to without a doubt, one of the greatest cyclists to ever grace the pedals. Iv got a brilliant Herbie Sykes book to get stuck into this January, I cant get enough of this bianchi emblazoned angel. Click here for details

Pieper, You Perv!

Iv been looking for this clip for SO long, its hilarious. Allan Peiper (now a sport manager at HTC) out with Robert Millar and Joey McLaughlin on a training ride., Its taken from the fabulous documentary 'The High Life'.

Quoc Pham Derby

Quoc Pham has these white crepe souled Derby shoes available made to order in sizes 42-47. Could these be the ultimate in cycling-chic dandyism? I think so. Curse my size 38's....

I saw Quoc Pham at the Cycle Show in August and was blown away with the quality of his footwear. Using high quality leathers he has encapsulated the bespoke shoe look perfectly and tweaked it for around-town riding. Now, lets see a ladies fixed shoe please!

Hell!

There's not much to say about this years installant of HOTN, our ride was blighted by 5 punctures (myself taking the lions share of the gang with 4 on the front wheel) and not to mention Rowland's rear derailleur hanger shearing off and snapping just as he descended into the forest section!
The ride was yet again treated to sublime perfect weather conditions, with the sun out and temperatures hovering around 21 degrees for the most part of the day.
The Rowland brothers hit the school track
This year there was a new sector taking in a deserted school yard, bringing back memories as the three of us queued for the water fountain. The ride was great, with 250 riders hammering down all manner of dirt tracks and gravel encrusted bridleways. A bottle of beligian brew and box of frites awaited every rider as we reached the pub in Barnet. For us three merry cyclists, this came a little sooner than anticipated after the derailleur hanger blow out. Cue some ingenious bike modifications and a broken chain and Si was able to TT with us straight to the pub after around mile 35 of the route. Although he had a 'banana chain' spirits were high, until my 4th puncture on the way home, due to my rim tape glue melting and the whole tape shifting to expose several holes! Minus points here for schwalbe tape!
Oh dear!
testing mechanicals in the sun
SS ghetto-style

All in all was a fab day in the sun and we chalked up 113k by the time we landed at home, albeit a little frazzled. And what about the race? a cracking result for the journey man Van Summeren, and in particular a bit of a fairytale ending, hammering out 5km on a flat tyre to propose to his girlfriend at the finish. Now thats what I want to see in my racing! fabulous stuff....
Gavin over at the wicked Spinwell blog was shooting the HOTN for rapha, so expect some wicked snaps appearing on their blog soon!

Colnago Dream - Lars Boom

Winter Hack Project

I rescued an old Colnago dream 2003 over the summer, with the intention of making it into a nice little winter hack/commuter... for days when I either couldn't face the 15 mile round trip on fixed gear, or for simply when I wanted to hit up Regents Park for some pre-Getty laps. Having no doubt driven James mad with bits lying all over the flat and him having to put up with my whinging because this part doesn't fit or that part doesn't look right, its a welcome arrival and has ended weeks of me pottering about wittering on about the build.
After much cleaning up and a little smattering of TLC via Prologue, I spent my first day yesterday cruising around Regents on it. Having never ridden campag before, Iv been pretty impressed with the relatively low end Veloce groupset. Low end in price and weight perhaps, but ample performance for my requirements. As its only a budget winter hack, finishing kit has been extremely modest, choosing Deda matching alu steapost and stem, spd's for a bit more practicality when commuting, and tried and trusty Continental 4 seasons tyres, having impressed me last year even holding up in thick snow. If you see me out on the road, give me a wave.... (or a draft!)

Bikes of Venice

Bianchista currently finds herself in Venice editing imagery from the 2010 film festival. Getty rather awesomely hired us all some bikes to get around the Lido, so iv been cruising around on a hilarious town bike with a basket full of San Pelligrino and the Rapha giro cd on repeat on the ipod. After cracking the bike hire shop owners up by asking for a Bianchia a la Pirata, they let me pick this silver number, chosen for the aero benefits of internally routed brake cables :-)

Also spotted were this very cute Bianchi....

and team SKY's new climbing prototype frame....
